Amalia Faustina Sestero was the wife of American actor Allan Melvin. She was born on January 12, 1920, in Manhattan, New York County, US. Amalia married Allan Melvin in 1944 in New York City. The couple was blessed with two children and lived together until Melvin died in 2008.
Amalia’s two children, Mya and Jennifer Melvin, kept a low profile just like their mother, and they also did not venture into acting but instead into something else.
Her Husband
Amalia’s husband was born in Kansas City but spent most of his time in New York, where he studied. He was a student at Columbia University, after which he joined the US Army. After World War II, he met Amalia, and they got married, and their marriage was fruitful and long-lasting as it lasted for over sixty years.
Her Husband’s Acting Career
Allan Melvin worked in the sound effects department on the radio before making his way into the television screens. He appeared in some Broadway plays before getting the role of Corporal Steve Henshaw in The Phil Silvers Show. Amalia’s husband played some other minor roles in several films appearing as a tough guy in some.
Amalia’s husband landed more roles in the 1960s. He appeared in eight episodes of The Dick Van Dyke Show. He also played several acts in the Andy Griffith Show. In 1963, Allan wrote two episodes of the Beetle Bailey show; he also acted portraying Sergeant Snorkel. Additionally, Allan appeared in The Flintstones, The Magilla Gorilla Show, and The Joey Bishop Show.
In 1966, Amalia’s husband had voice roles in Sinbard Jr. and his Magic Belt and Secret Squirrel. He also appeared in two episodes of Lost in Space as Enforcer Claudio. The 1970s was nothing less as Amalia’s husband appeared in more shows, including The Brady Bunch, All in the Family, The ABC Saturday Superstar Movie and Yogi’s Gang.
Amalia’s husband also had voice roles in several projects, including These Are the Days, Hong Kong Phooey, CB Bears, Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels. Allan Melvin also did television commercials before exiting the acting industry. Amalia’s husband retired in 1994 to spend time with his family and focus on his health.
Her Husband’s Death
Amalia Sestero’s husband was battling cancer before his death. His family, especially his wife Amalia, was very supportive as they were very close. However, despite the care he was given, Allan succumbed to cancer on January 17, 2008. He was buried at Westwood Memorial Cemetery, where Amalia’s body was also interred.

After her husband died in 2008, Amalia Faustina Sestero was devastated because Melvin had been her companion through thick and thin for over six decades. However, she journeyed on; she spent time with her children and grandchildren until she died twelve years later.

Amalia Faustina Sestero died of old age and ailments that come with it in Dec 2020, aged 100, in Los Angeles, California. Her remains were interred at Westwood Memorial Park in Los Angeles in the United States of America.
